house | cascais | portugal
preliminary studies
The site although delimited by exterior walls - that protect its privacy from near future residential projects in the adjacent sites - is inserted within a densely forested area of pine trees, characteristic of the Cascais area. The close presence with nature but at the same time, the need to privatize the space suggests a concept of patios and terraces that embrace nature. The materiality of the house absorbs this concept and is covered with wooden beams.
Terraces and views are created and guided towards an intimate contact with the exterior, with the surrounding nature. These terraces create natural spatial voids and at the same time, they embrace all the spatial experiences of the house, giving it a continuous "patios in-and-out" flowing feel. All spaces, social or private, are assigned a "private" garden.
